Walking

Posted by Lindsay at 9/25/2012 03:47:00 PM 0 comments

If through summer,
I hear the song of the finch, bright and yellow as the sun.
I see the light shining on the still, deep waters.
I taste the tart, sweet sorbet dripping onto my fingers.
I feel the cool breeze from the lake at sunset.
I smell the coconut oil wafting from the tanners lying on sand.

I walk with you on the beach, hand-in-hand,
And I know that the passion of our souls burns bright together.

If through fall,
I hear the crunch of fallen leaves as children laugh their way back to school.
I see God’s artistic paintbrush as He colors the landscape in bright hues.
I taste pumpkin pie and persimmon pudding as the turkey bakes.
I feel the warmth of my newly-donned coat shield me from the cold wind.
I smell Earth; the soil preparing for winter’s test.

Our hearts share a warm love and thanks for all good that has passed
As if by fireside we feast on thoughtful words and drink of grace.

If through winter,
I hear the quiet serenity of the rest and contemplation of many souls.
I see the hills draped in bright white, preparing for the renewal of spring.
I taste the rich things that bring warmth and belonging.
I feel the chill of melted snow that has slipped into my boots.
I smell the pine that will set the mood for the season—Christ’s birth.

You stay close to me and we quietly make room for
Presents under the tree and a grand celebration of togetherness.

If through spring,
I hear the song of the new bird, “here to stay.”
I see the explosion of green as each new leaf reaches out for the sun.
I taste the refreshing spring water melted from the heights of the mountains.
I feel the energy coursing through every living thing.
I smell the sweet buds of flowers that await the bees and new life.

I feel your hand in mine, ready to take on the world
Two hearts weathered through sun and snow, now sing a beautiful harmony.

We are not as good as God at burning away the chaff. What's cluttering up your threshing room floor?

First Day of a Rare Old Person at IU

As I sit here gazing at the treetops out of the window of the HG Wells Library on the Bloomington IU campus, I find a rare peaceful moment in what has been an otherwise aggravating day.

Everyday

I read in one of my journals that, as hard as it is to swallow sometimes for my somewhat perfectionist, OCD nature, we journal when we are ready and when we don't have anything, forcing it might not be the best idea.

I had a wonderful time at camp. I met so many nice people and got a great workout. I probably will go into more detail later, but I loved the campfire. I really liked singing along and making up harmonies with the guitars and violins, even if only a select few could hear me. I would like to ask Jesus for His will, and I would love if that included me singing.

"Can I Cook, or Can't I?"

It's the idea of ingredients together that can make a good or bad life (paraphrase, Girlfriends in God, 4/26/2012)-and God's a good cook :D (me). Are we too many cooks in the kitchen, or are we serving our Master Chef?

Lack of Cooperation

Does it seem unreasonable that I asked for the first week's assignments because my class's online learning environment has not recognized me as registered yet? I welcome comments on this question/post.

Careful versus Skilled

Posted by Lindsay at 3/13/2012 03:56:00 PM 0 comments
I just took a test where how careful you are is nearly as important as how much you know or how skilled you are. I guess it's the best evaluation tool they have. I have taken these tests before, but I really haven't learned to "do it their way". I know my way is right and I could conclude at the same result, but I have to perform the steps exactly as their parameters dictate. I passed anyway, and it was a pretest, so I know I can do it on my own.

2012 Pi(e) Run

I had a nice post typed up for this but my AT&T Internet disconnected and Blogger nor I saved before Firefox crashed, so I'll just say I ran this race, here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pie-Run-Bloomington/354270384606274, and there is a picture of my finish on this SmugMug on page 19: http://trevorhpittman.smugmug.com/Sports/Pi-Run-2012 thanks to Trevor Pittman. Maybe I'll type it up again later, and hopefully my "finish" will be closer to the beginning next year. ;D The pie was very good, and my lemonade was quite refreshing with the pie pops and chocolate silk.

The links for Campus Connect are still broken, though they said they'd be back after the 12th, so it's off to campus I go. There are some reasons outside the student that Distance Education is more difficult than it should be.

And, There Again...

If you get that far behind, might as well just go on.

Yesterday, Jonah said I could have the car and he'd take me to South Pacific. It's about time to move on. Good thing I have something to do it in.

I started on classes last night, too. The curriculum has us studying an early version of Office 2010, so I'm going to have to get the book today and pay the extra amount.

Day before, Sunday, watched Eustis Family Bible series. It seems like everything is ending, but some things have to begin and go on in their place. I can only trust God and ask Him to take me where He wants me. I had a nice time with Brian, watching The Artist, which was great, and eating at Golden Corral.

Saturday, I continued organizing, which seems to be the bulk of what I do these days. In light of yesterday's conversation, that's probably a good thing. At least I'll get a more subdued, adult lifestyle out of my old relationship. I guess I'll be able to find everything I need in hiding my heart, functionality the trade.

And Sometimes, You Just Have to Let It Go

Thursday, drove up to Indy with Brian to pick up his taxes. Friday, had a really good voice lesson with K and Andy. Checked into my classes. Today, had a good yoga class and getting ready to go to photography ACR class.

Of course, got to get to one of these posts because of a busy day or you just forgot, etc.

I tried to meet with Christian Challenge, but I was a little late, and there was no one there. I instead stopped by the transfer fair, and by stopped by, meaning I talked to lots of schools and got lots of details about how to proceed. IU for voice and IUPUI for pre-med look like the most promising. I also talked with a guy outside Christian Challenge who was running another booth inside-he invited me in.

After the fair, I got gas at Speedway and a $2 KFC snack pack with a thigh and headed out to McCormick's Creek. I snapped a few photos, and while doing so, I noticed that I'm still nervous about taking pictures of people or going where it looks like I might not be welcome. I also want to learn much, much more about what I'm doing when I have the time and money. Not much wildlife, but I did get some shots for my personal collection. I do also realize that I need to learn what a good photograph involves so I can choose the best of mine for a portfolio. Jamie helped me once, and it was interesting.

I came back for choir about 5 minutes early and Tim was sitting in. I said konnichi ha and left to do something on the computer and get water. It's not a good time to get a soda, I learned later, both vocally and timewise for that occasion, but I got a Cherry Coke as well. Choir was decent, and I was hitting some high notes after practice on ode to joy that finally turned Tim's head again. I really want this consistency thing to happen, so I'll keep working.

The exam went well. I didn't want to sit for ten minutes before it thinking about it, so I walked outside to play with my camera, but I don't think I'll keep anything from that. I also started experimenting with RAW yesterday, partly for the focus group/class on Saturday. I kept making faces and sighing about the bass cleff yesterday. I wonder if I just need the attention. I hope I don't interrupt the other students, or give them an excuse for their own lack of effort. I think I kept up my "A", though. I realized how paying attention to what you're doing and making the effort to ensure the "A" because you can do it and that's what you should earn pays off and caught two mistakes before I handed in my paper. That diligence might have saved me my 100% on the first quiz. No big.

I stopped by Brian's for a walk after class and then headed to the Y. I lifted weights and got in the hot tub after talking to Laura. It was nice to see her again.

The rest of the night I worked on the house and sang and watched "House, M.D." Disturbingly, I found Harry stuck on a cord where I hadn't noticed him before, but he seemed okay for it. No more frenetic than he usually is.

What I Did for...

Posted by Lindsay at 3/06/2012 11:41:00 PM 0 comments
Stayed in the house most of the day but got a lot of stuff done for myself. Did my freewriting and organized bags and boxes. Went to the BPC meeting, and it was good. Got my five minutes in the hot tub after trying the elliptical and found out that I like reading Opera News. A lot. Asked Brian if he had some, but he thinks only one, for which he may have time in the next year to look.

The refrigerator wasn't running or cool but the light was turning on. I Google-d it and shuffled some things around as well as called Brian to see what he thought and the fan started. I hope the food is okay overnight, and I'll try to clean it out tomorrow, but I have a busy day planned. I also looked up the election. Santorum, huh? Time for the online candidate chooser. "Who will buy my sweet [Ohio]? Two blooms for a penny."

Morning, World!

I thought this (http://nk-ds.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/preview0776b785cf72d1f8416607c77e6af6b7.jpg) was an animation holding a real stuffed bear as viewed through Google Images thumbnail. Thought it would be interesting. Maybe work on that myself.

Time to start programming again, too.

Class

Class was fun today and lots more people, but I was having trouble being quiet. I guess I was hyper, but I did finally figure out what I needed to so that I can get an "A" on the midterm. I was missing the fact that triad note names are already on the staff, and I just need to flat or sharp that. yay

EDIT (@1058EST20120313T): Got my ace. :D

I asked my friend Brian why Putin was crying and he said he's not, and I asked why someone threw a water balloon in his face.

Woke up to music this morning, playing the piano, warming-up my voice and looking at graphics. Also been looking at graphics (and finding, yay!) and cleaning up/organizing all day. Remembered and looked up my old site, but archive.org didn't go back that far. Ah, well. Maybe I should find out if Dan still has anything....

Wish-sheet music for piano voice warm-ups.

Found this on Pandora, and on the album Finest Hour. I'm still planning that compilation for her. Of course, she's a "Rose".
